The geographical dimensions of Scandinavia consist of countries like Sweden, Denmark and Norway, and has given birth to some great footballers over the years. Some of them have played successfully in the most significant leagues of Europe and also performed creditably in major tournaments like the World Cup and European Championship.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Ibrahimovic is a Swedish footballer of Croatian descent who currently plays in Serie A with AC Milan. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time. Ibrahimović is one of the most decorated active footballers in the world, having won 31 trophies in his career. He has scored over 570 career goals, including more than 500 club goals, and has scored in each of the last four decades.

Ibrahimovic began his career at Malmo FF in 1999 and signed for Ajax two years later. At Ajax, Ibrahimovic gained a reputation as one of the most promising forwards in Europe and departed two years later to sign for Juventus. He has also played for giants like Inter Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United and AC Milan. 

Ibrahimovic is one of eleven players to have made 100 or more appearances for the Swedish national team over a 20-year international career. He is the country’s all-time leading goalscorer with 62 goals.

Michael Laudrup

Michael Laudrup rose to prominence while playing for the Danish national team in the 1986 World Cup. He played for Juventus from 1984 to 1989 and joined Barcelona thereafter. He was a part of Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team in Barca and won the European Cup with them in 1992. He joined Real Madrid in 1994 and played for them for two more seasons.

Laudrup is one of the very few players to have performed creditably for both Barca and Madrid. He played in 547 matches in his entire club career and scored 120 goals. He was also voted as the greatest foreign player in LaLiga in the previous 25 years in 1999. He won 5 La Liga and 1 Serie A title in his career.

Peter Schmeichel 

Peter Bolesław Schmeichel is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is best known for his most successful years at English club Manchester United, whom he captained to victory in the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final to complete the Treble. He also won the UEFA Euro 1992 with his country Denmark.

He also won 5 Premier League titles with United. He played for clubs like Aston Villa and Manchester City too. In all, he played 429 matches in his club career and was also selected in the Premier League’s team of the century in 2007.
