You might be surprised but there are a lot of excellent players that Scandinavian countries have produced.
Martin Ödegaard, Dejan Kulusevski, Alexander Isak, Erling Braut Haaland.
The one common thing between these players is, they’re all Scandinavian. They’re Scandinavian and come from Academies at Scandinavian clubs!
Scandinavia or Nordic clubs cover all clubs from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland. Some of these clubs have rich academies who have churned out quite a lot of talented youngsters.
The secret to that might be quality infrastructure, good coaching, or just rich history and heritage of producing talented players.
The graduates from these academies have graced the top 5 leagues of Europe, but before making it big, they played for their respective clubs.
So, let’s learn a little more about these clubs and also learn about the talents they have produced!
Here are the best clubs in Scandinavia, based on the players they have produced in recent times!
FC Köbenhavn (Denmark) – Höjberg, Delaney, Vestergaard
FC Köbenhavn has produced a number of outstanding players, at least by Scandinavian standards. Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg of Tottenham Hotspur, Jannik Vestergaard of Southampton, and Thomas Delaney of Borussia Dortmund are all FC Köbenhavn Academy graduates.
Malmö FF (Sweden) – Jansson, Svanberg, Ibrahimovic
Malmo will forever be remembered for producing not only Sweden’s best-ever player but the best ever player, produced by Scandinavia.
The Zlatan Ibrahimovic once was the academy graduate of Malmo FF.
The other two players on this list are Swedish internationals Pontus Jansson (Brentford) and Mattias Svanberg (Bologna).
FC Midtjylland (Denmark) – Kjaer, Duelund and Braithwaite
Simon Kjær the centre back of AC Milan is also the captain of the Denmark team.
Along with Braithwaite (Barcelona) and Reid (Brentford), the three players make up the most prolific trio of Midtjylland Academy graduates!
IF Brommapojkarna (Sweden) – Kulusevski, Ekdal, Augustinsson
Albin Ekdal (Sampdoria) is nearing the conclusion of his playing career. Ludwig Augustinsson (Werder Bremen) is now in the midst of his. Dejan Kulusevski (Juventus), the brightest dazzling star of them all, is on the rise!
All three of them are Swedish National players as well.
Rosenborg BK (Norway) – Selnaes, Sörloth, Midtsjö
This club has produced many great players in the past but right now, Selnaes (Shenzhen), Sörloth (RB Leipzig), and Midtsjö (AZ Alkmaar) are their best yield.
Now, these 5 clubs have produced talents on a consistent basis, where at least 3 players are currently making an impact in Europe’s top leagues.
But certain clubs might have managed to produce only one talent in recent times, but that one talent has put the world on fire!
Let’s look at some of these clubs!
Bryne FK (Norway) – Erling Braut Haaland.
Haaland who has taken the world by the storm and is predicted to be the next big thing in football, alongside Mbappe, found his humble beginning at Bryne FK of Norway.
He joined Bryne FK when he was 5 years old in 2006. He left the club in 2017 and well, the rest is history!
AIK Fotboll (Sweden) – Alexander Isak
He started playing for the youth team of one of the largest clubs in the area, the team he supports, AIK, at age six.
Isak made his first-team debut for AIK on 28 February 2016.
Alexander Isak has played for Dortmund in the past and he now plays for the Spanish side, Real Sociedad.
He is only 23 years old.
So, there you have it, that’s the list and it is evident that North European clubs have a lot to offer!
We hope for the sake of football, they continue doing so!
